The burger served was absolutely horrible. It was extremely salty, even hours later the taste is still in my mouth. We took our order to go, otherwise I would have sent it back, instead it went into the garbage. A complete waste of my money.

I decided to make my own burger and went with the following: egg buns, smash sauce (probably some combination of ketchup, mustard, and horse radish), pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onion. I also ordered a SmashFries (french fries with rosemary, olive oil and garlic). Good: the meat was decently cooked, juicy and tasty. The bun was also very good. Bad: the fries seems too oily. Next time I'll try the regular french fries instead of the smash fries. All in all, an OK place for burger, perhaps just a bit better than Crown Burger, but more expensive (my order came out to be around $9 for a 1/3 lb burger, fries, and soda)

Excellent hamburgers with a gourmet taste. There are other "gourmet" hamburgers in the Salt Lake City area, but you'll pay double or triple the money, and in my opinion, Smash Burger is better. The hamburger meat tastes very fresh as do the other ingredients. The bun is nice a substantial and doesn't get soggy as can happen at some burger joints. If you're not a burger person, I've been there a few times with someone who absolutely loves the chicken sandwich. The rosemary french fries are delicious.

Burger joints come and go. In the SLC area there are a plethora of places that sell burgers, mot of them are crap. Without someone like me who is a food snob there would be no good food and no bad food, just food. There are a few standouts in the area to note. This is one them. Lest there be any confusion burgers from places like McDonalds, Wendy's, and Burker King are nothing short of ordinary and boring. Many years ago they were the standard and were acceptable. Such places have failed to evolve and are now a distant shadow of their former burger greatness of 40 and 50 years ago. Today those of us who enjoy food for more than its mere ability to sustain life, crave a burger that is more than ordinary. Smashburger is one of the places that has kept up with the burger evolution and is able to satisfy the modern burger lover. Smashburger is located on 2100 South in Sugarhouse. Smashburger is a chain of franchise locations now in some thirteen states and growing. The menu is short and concise. They have burgers, hot dogs, and even salads for that date that doesn't want to be seen eating in front of you. The usual suspects are available for sides. For desert you can order some Häagen-Dazs ice cream. The burgers are big, juicy, and tasty. There standard burger is a cheeseburger with American cheese on it. There are plenty of toppings to choose from but nothing too exotic is on the menu. You can have chili, egg, guacamole, mushrooms or onions as toppings. Both the hot dogs and the burgers come in a lovely egg bun. Every burger is made to order. The burgers are some of the best in the area to be sure. The french fries are coated with a rosemary type of salt that give them a distinctive flavor. Service is good, parking can be a bit of a pain for this location as it jammed in with other popular places in the Sugarhouse area. The inside is clean and fresh. Nothing flashy nor dated. These burgers are better than Crown Burger.

Worst service I've ever had. I went on Labor Day and the place was packed, the line was long and they only had one register open. I got my burger and it did not have my requested grilled onions or smash sauce. The burger was average at best and overpriced. I recommend Crown Burger for a better (and more local) burger experience. The place was loud, the seats were no better than a McDonald's. There were no clean booths to sit in and when the girl (finally) washed one, we had to sit at a wet table. All in all, it was an average, not-impressive, over-priced dining experience. Go to Crown Burger! Please!

K so once again mixed feelings. I hit up SB the first time at a yelp event and had an absolutely awesome burger, fresh, moist and delicious. I just came to this location and my experience was not up to par. My burger was dry and there was BBQ sauce on like a quarter of the burger. I ordered the Beehive on recommendation of yelpers and on paper the burger sounds awesome but mine was just not great at all. The smash fries were really good i love they mix of flavors on there for sure. I hope there is a better quality check coming on the burger cause it was not cool how different the experience was between stores.

Well I'm usually not a beef person in the slightest, but Smashburger is pretty tasty. Supposedly they smash-cook their patties to seal in the juices, those delicious, greasy fattening juices. I like them. The chili dog was quite delicious but perhaps wouldn't fill a strapping man's stomach, that's why they have the lb burgers there also I suppose. I'm gonna give a shout out to the fries there, holy cow they are delicious!

I love a good burger and a clean atmosphere. This place had both! The burgers had a great taste and the smash fries were delicious! I love fresh and spicy and their burger hit the spot!

I haven't had a better burger in my life, and I've been around, if you know what I mean. Avg. price is $6 - 8, and much better than any restaurant burger.

Since a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a lemonade is the greatest meal on the planet, I had to try the new Smashburger in Sugarhouse to see if I would have yet another burger place to get my weekly fix. I ordered the Classic Smashburger with Smashfries, and my beloved Minute Maid Lemonade. The burger had everything I require; a half pound of meat, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, mustard, and ketchup. The meat was high quality and full of flavor. The egg bun was serviceable, and the toppings were good. But, I had to pay $1.49 for the requisite bacon, and I got one slice. Broken up and laid haphazard on the meat, it contributed nothing to the taste. The fries were adequate, but the rosemary/garlic seasoning was lackluster on my serving. French fry lovers beware! The meal was practically ruined by the "fry sauce". Smashburger's fry sauce is made with ranch dressing rather than mayo. WHAT?? It was horrible and inedible. Maybe they are trying to be different and cute, but it doesn't work. Don't mess with the classic. Two high points. I got a free refill of my lemonade. And my server, Sarah, was way cute.

Good food. Had just a plain old cheeseburger, although there were so many choices. Kinda reminded me a little of my local In-n-out except at Smashburger the fries are actually tasty.

Definitely a nice clean place to get a burger - I enjoyed the fries and shake as well. The burger is good but not great.

I don't eat burgers but I do eat potatoes & I love fries. I tried their Rosemary fries & they are awesome. The seasoning is great. I heard they're fried in olive oil which I guess makes them slightly better but they were more oily than I'm used to. If that makes sense that a food coated & fried in oil might be too oily...

I had lunch at this location a few days ago and it was terrific. I ordered a cheeseburger with bacon and avocado along with this Smash fries. The garlic and rosemary flavoring on the fries wasn't overpowering. They were perfect. The burger itself was well done and delicious. I especially like that they didn't skimp on the avocado, as so many places do. The restaurant itself was clean and the staff was friendly. The food was presented nicely. I will definitely go back next time I am in the Sugar House area.

My FAVORITE burger. I get the beehive and my wife builds her own with Carmelized onion and mushroom. This place is so good. Better than hires, red robin, 5 guys, in n out, etc. The fries are thin and crispy!!! We love this place and it's our favorite spot. They also have amazing shakes (butterfinger, salted caramel, Oreo, etc.) This place is a good go-to! And decently priced!

Great customer service! Tyler must be a manager, he handles customers quickly and with a smile! Food is filling and flavorful. I tried the smash and dash paying ahead online; note they only receive the order 10 minutes before it's due so if you arrive early you will wait. I like the consistency so my food is warm. I'll be back!!

Got the Truffle Mushroom Swiss. Plenty of mushrooms. Very fulfilling! Sadly that's part of the reason why I didn't get a side of fries because I knew I would've been too full. (But that didn't stop me from stealing a few off of my husband's!) The staff was friendly. The place was clean. Food came out pretty quick as well. Only thing I wish they had was an option to get the patty other than well done. But overall a great experience :)

Outstanding service. The restaurant was clean, the food was fresh, and the folks were friendly. I definitely recommend this place. This is the first place I visited after arriving in SLC for the first time ever and I hope everyone is as hospitable as they are.

Food and service at Smashburger has been good in the past. However, on days like today (when the first person in line has to wait 5min to place an order and when they come back 5min later to tell you they are out of the ingredients needed for what you ordered) a person might be inclined to put a bad review on yelp. The reason that didn't happen today was that the store manager came to my table to "make it right" as I was writing this. I edited my low score to high accordingly. Bravo!

  • Harte N.

Appalling service. There was one person working at the register with a completely full restaurant. There were at least 15-20 people in line the whole time. Then it took 45 minutes for our food to come out. We won't be back!

    (1)
  • Nathan S.

The patty was under seasoned and dry. The bun and fries were rather soggy. The environment and the quality of the food made the burger feel like an improved fast-food burger.

Horrible service. One cashier on a Friday night. He was very nice. We had kids in our party, and they were out of lids. They were out of their signature sauce. They were out of glasses for their shakes. The people bringing food out couldn't remember what was what and to whom it went. They stacked baskets on top of food. Gross baskets on top of our food. Horrible. I love smash birder but will not be going back to that location.

We always walk out happy after a meal here. You get good value for the money and some awesome vegetarian choices as well. I have made like 5-8 different veggie burgers by artfully varying the toppings. Each and every one of them was pretty much awesome. My wife likes the grilled chicken sandwich here. Smashfries are great as well.

I'm always up for trying a burger place I've never tried, I love a good burger. I ordered the truffle Swiss with bacon and smash fries. As I got my food I tried a fry, they were cold and rubbery. I told the cashier, and she said, no problem, the cook argued with her and I think her manager for a good minute. I got my fries again, and they were warm, but so greasy the napkin I dumped them on to eat them was soaked. The burger was one of the worst I've ever had in my life, and I still have a bad taste in my mouth five hours later. I didn't complain again though, I just will never eat there again. The cashier was very nice

Let's do the quick and dirty recap first. The kid was loudly requesting a hot dog for dinner and so I hopped on the moderately trusty Yelp (you know what I mean) to find a place relatively nearby so I wouldn't also have to also gas up the car to get there and back. I came across this and thought to myself that I hadn't had a good mushroom & Swiss burger in a while...nearly since Hardee's was run out on a hot rail out of Salt Lake and replaced with...nothing. I digress. To resume, about 1/4 of the way into the Truffle Mushroom Swiss burger I was still thinking I hadn't had a good mushroom & Swiss burger in a while... For the longer version, that Hardee's burger was hefty competition. The burger and cheese were mostly crap, but Lordy, that mushroom sauce. It was if they had somehow found a way to connect a pipeline to heaven. They even saved the dreadful catfood burgers. I remember once the Hardee's I worked at in high school wanted to have a picnic in the park and predictably brought along those frozen 1/4 lb. patties that then constituted most of their higher dollar value menu. Said burgers hit the grill and promptly fell apart as soon as the ice binding them together melted. Fun times. I digress again. It had been quite a while since I wrote this chain off initially, so I figured they were maybe due and if nothing else, it would be more canvassing of the places mostly nearby. I don't, after dining there, find those reasons sufficient, but it's not like I can un-eat the burger and fried pickles. As to those pickles, over-salted, as in wayyy over-salted, slightly excess of breading and not really worth ordering. Apparently this dish is difficult to execute as nearly every place I've tried it has tended towards doing it poorly. The burger seemed formed from fresh and tasted fine. It was not cooked quite the way I like it, but close enough. Mushrooms were also acceptable. The truffle mayo and the bun were greatly underwhelming, however and negatively affected the taste. I should have definitely also ordered this with bacon. Or went to another restaurant entirely, but maybe I had fun trying to dogfight into a parking space in that awful parking lot. Hard to say, I suppose. The hot dog (which my son decided he didn't want after raising such a ruckus and clamoring like mad for it - sure, have a kid, why not? Nothing to lose but your sanity) was a step above Oscar Mayer but noticeably below Nathan's. The fries he got were the best thing either of us got (maybe I should have led with that to start the review? Lots of digressing this review...). Definitely get those plain and don't bother with the oily goop and rosemary nonsense. Shoestrings dry and salted came across just fine. Drinks here are a bit iffy, but service was quite exemplary. All in all, this place will do reasonably well in a pinch, but is not in the upper echelon of burger joints.

My brother raves about this place so I thought I would give it a try. One of the waitresses recommended the Frank's Hot red sauce and blue cheese burger so I decided to give it a try. It was the perfect balance of the two flavors! We also tried the smash fries and they were pretty good but didn't have as much flavor as I had wanted. My daughter got the chicken strips kids meal but didn't eat it all so I got to try some of that and it was so so. My wife got the black bean burger and said it was mediocre. So our first visit wasn't mind blowing but it was better than the average Burger for sure.

Look, I'm going to lay it all out here for you readers...I'm not a fan of chain restaurants. I like spending local, and have made that point known in some of my other reviews, but the quality of Smashburger cannot be ignored, particularly at this location. We revisited the Smashburger location yesterday (11/15/13) and were once again very pleased with just about every aspect of the experience. The service is stellar (and quick), the restaurant is clean and, above all, the food is good. Even the quality presentation of the food is worth noting. We enjoyed a build-your-own burger and build-your-own chicken sandwich, along with a garden salad and the onion ring haystack. The burger and chicken were cooked properly, and the vegetable fixings (lettuce, grilled onions, tomatoes, etc.) are all super fresh. The only disappointments were with the salad, a bit skimpy and I don't like the shredded cheese, and the fact that the chain has elected to get rid of spinach as an option for burger topping. It's also a bummer that they have discontinued their chili, I thought it was really tasty. All in all, this chain is heads and tails above its burger chain competition.

I love Smashburger! For a chain restaurant it is dang good. The burgers are big, juicy and flavorful. I like that they have a variety of buns to choose from and all are fresh and delicious. The burgers are smashed to crispy perfection every time and come with fresh ingredients, no bagged shredded lettuce or rehydrated onion bits here. The have a tasty chipotle sauce that is great on burgers and even better for dipping fries in. The smash fries are really good too, they are tossed in a rosemary/olive oil sauce. My only complaint is that I wish they were a little thicker. If you take the 2 minute survey on their receipt, then you get a free side (smash fries, sweet potato fries, etc.) with your next order! We have always had excellent service and are repeat customers for sure. Once they ran out of regular fries after we had already paid, and so they gave us sweet potato fries and free malts to make up for it.

Love love love this place! Tonight was our first time and it will not be the last! I had the chicken avocado club and it was amazing! My husband got the Beehive burger and liked it. Tried a bite a bit and thought it had really good flavor! The smash fries are delish, but my favorite were my husband's red hot fries! I kept sneaking them they were so good! We also both got shakes. They were ok, but not very thick. Pretty standard shakes. Customer service was awesome! Only two complaints would be the shakes and the buns. I thought the buns were not great. They served their purpose, but I felt like they could have chosen a more substantial bun to support such an awesome burger!

We've been here 3x now. I'm not a "burger" person but my husband is. So I'm occasionally dragged here. I will say I appreciate the fact that they also serve chicken sandwiches. They have with with a southwest type sauce and it's actually quite flavorful. They fries are pretty good, not my favorite but good. My husband likes the shakes. He prefers a runny shake that you can drink through a straw, if you like those you'll LOVE these. I'm just a "think" shake kinda girl. I'm sure we'll keep coming back :)

  • Rachel W.

I was skeptical to try this place but I was pleasantly surprised. I got the beehive burger and it was really awesome. The barbecue sauce was different and just had a great flavor that I can't even describe. The rosemary fries were good too and definitely unexpected at a burger joint. My husband got the classic burger and it was just ok. I wouldn't order it again but if I did just feel like a "classic" burger, I would rather go to the Habit or In N Out. I gave it four stars because I think they are a little overpriced, they don't offer "combos" (I hate that), and you can't walk in and look at the menu without someone badgering you within 2 seconds as to whether or not you are ready to order. Does it look like I'm ready to order? I just walked in and I am clearly trying to ignore you so I can figure out what I want! Sorry, just had to rant. But I'll for sure be back for the beehive burger.

It's places like this that's giving McDonald's a real run for it's money. Sure, it's more expensive, but the food is prepared with much more care, the shakes taste WAY better and the famous fries from MckyDees and not stacking up so well to places like Smashburger. I had the bacon cheeseburger egg bun with fries and a diet coke here on Sunday night. The presentation was superb, the food came out hot (as it always does....pay attention McDonalds!) and the order was accurate! (again, McDonald's pay attention again....accurate orders = happy customers) The food was served promptly and tasted great! The other nice feature is you can order whatever toppings you want. Not as easy to do at the Golden Arches. On the downside, we had to sit there for about 5 minutes (first world problems), but that has become the case too at all of the "fast food" joints. Like I mentioned, the meal is on the pricey side, but worth it in my book!

Pretty good, better than fast food burgers. Don't get as much bang for your buck as a lot of other places though. Burger isn't that big but can customize it anyway you want.

This place is fantastic. I had heard great things about the food from this place from multiple friends and I was not disappointed. I ordered the Beehive Burger and some regular fries and was intoxicated from the first smell. I ordered to go, so I could go home and enjoy a good beer with it. It was the hardest car ride home I've had in a while. The honey BBQ and the haystack onions were the perfect combination of flavor. With the business name of "Smashburger", I would of thought that the burger wouldn't have been as juicy as it was. It was cooked very well. It was not overwhelmed by the flavors of the BBQ sauce or the onion rings. As for the fries, i'm not to big into adventuring into different flavors of fries, but they were just fine. The atmosphere of the place was fine. You'd think that they'd show how they cook the burgers, but whatever. I did like how they served things out in metal tray's. Better than plastic (in and out) or just straight bags (Five Guys) if you plan on eating there. I do plan on coming back.

Smashburger serves up a decent-tasting burger. Their fries and haystack onions are tasty too. So why is it that I never have a burning desire to go to this place for lunch?! Good bun, flavorful meat, decent array of toppings... What is it? My wife certainly loves it. Why can't I get on board? I guess to answer that question one needs to compare it to all of the other burger joints in the area. Their food is certainly better than a typical fast food place (e.g., McDonald's, Millie's, etc.), but it's also priced a bit higher than those places too. It's on par with what I consider to be the next tier of fast food (e.g., In-N-Out Burger, Habit Burger, etc.), yet it's priced higher than those places. It's priced similarly to Tonyburgers, but I think the burgers and fries at Tonyburgers are superior. I'm not sure it's fair to compare it to Lucky 13 or Salt City Burgers as you tip at those places. But even considering the tip, pricing seems to be within a buck or two. But now you can understand my dilemma. Sure they offer a ton of toppings that the other places don't, and perhaps that's where the premium pricing comes in. But my experience tells me all those toppings don't make for a better burger, just a messier one. On top of that, their fries and haystack onions are always good, but the drawback here is that they seem to skimp on the quantity. So to sum it up (and I don't mean to be so critical of a place I've rated with three stars), although you find tasty at every turn, there always seems to be a qualifier. Certainly tasty enough to frequent if someone in my party wants to go there, but I'm usually able to think of a burger place that I'd rather be at instead.

O.K., yes this is a chain restaurant and I am an anti-chain guy but hey, its really not a bad place to eat. I give Smashburger four stars while giving my locally owned, go to burger joint Salt City Burger, five stars. Smashburger makes a really good, very tasty burger, so if you like a good hamburger from time to time I do not believe that you will be disappointed here. The restaurants are always very clean as most of them are still relatively new, the service has always been good, and as best as I can tell everything as far as the food is concerned, everything is fresh. My recommendation if you chose to try Smashburger would be as follows; 1st) Get the Bacon Cheeseburger and add a fried egg, the combination of the seasoned hamburger, the bacon, the egg, the cheese, the onion, and the other topping really does provide something of a taste explosion. 2nd) Now I put this second but I may have erred by not putting it first, you MUST try the Smashfries!! the Smashfries are tossed with Rosemary, Olive Oil, and Garlic and are as savory and as delicious as anything that I have ever had at a fast food restaurant. We are not talking grilled salmon served at a restaurant in Alaska an hour after the fish was caught, but as fries go from a fast food joint they are pretty darn good. If you decide to give Smashburger a try I hope you enjoy, food is to important not to be enjoyed. Until next time my fellow Yelpers ............................. Be Local, Live Local, and whenever you can, try and Buy Local by supporting locally owned businesses.

For a burger Smash burger creates a great atmosphere and provides a nice casual dining service. Their burger was great and full of flavor and their bacon actually tasted real not like some lame over crispy bacon.

Since my last review I have been back many times, the food is fresh, the restaurant is clean. Overall the service has gotten better and my understanding is that the previous issue was due to the restaurant being newly opened with employees that had not yet been trained. I definitely recommend SMASH burger to anyone that wants a fresh burger and fries.

Good, fast burger. Fries were very good, sandwiches good. Had a very gourmet feel to the restaurant but I wouldn't say the burgers were overly "gourmet". I love burgers and while this may not be at the top of my list, it is a quality place to grab a nice sandwich. Pricing was a bit high in my opinion as well.

I can't believe how great this place is. The best thing on the menu just so happens to be their smash fries. Holy crap that stuffs good. Just imagine the best French dry in the whole world. Now add special seasonings to it so your mouth explodes with delight and your taste buds start screaming your praise. Yeah, that's what I've come to expect and they deliver every time. The burgers are good too. The service is getting better at this location, and your good is usually out to you quickly. Gotta love those smash fries though. WOW!

The best burgers in slc for sure. Definitely as good or even better then crown burger (which is another great burger place) their strawberry shakes are so yummy but a little smaller then you'd think they'd be, also their smash fries are some of the best I've had. They have a bunch of booths also which is a big pluss for me and their place is always nice and cool, which feels amazing on a hot summer day. :)

I had never been to a Smashburger prior to a recent business trip to Utah (there are only a few in Florida and none near me). But a business associate from the area took me to Smashburger and, based upon this one visit, I am a believer. It was well past the lunch rush when we visited so I cannot comment on the service or cleanliness during busy periods. But, when we were there, the place was clean and the service was stellar. The burger was really good but what really blew me away was the milkshake. As at least one other reviewer mentioned, the milkshakes are awesome. I grew up on Steak 'n' Shake in Florida and I always considered their shakes to be the best on Earth. Well, Smashburger beats them. I'm already planning the itinerary for an upcoming business trip to Ohio around Smashburger locations. If you like milkshakes, Smashburger is Heaven on Earth!

I was entirely underwhelmed. Fries were greasy, but my husband liked them anyways because they were "shoestring" style. (Not really small enough to be shoestring, but their cut is smaller than most fast food places.) Burger was nothing special- better than McD's or Wendy's, but also more expensive.

My wife's favorite "go to" burger place; and she says the manager is cool. She gets the mushroom truffle burger. I get the bacon cheeseburger, plain. And we share some Smash fries with chipotle fry sauce. I love it!!!

I think Smash burger is an acquired taste the first time I came here It was alright but upon my return visits it just kept getting better. Never get fries they kinda suck but the veggie frites are an awesome replacement for fries and maybe a bit healthier. Also if you are a spicy fan get the Spicy Baja Burger sooooooooo good.

First and foremost, if there's one thing that stands out about Smashburger, it's their SHAKES. Holy Shinto, these delicious, frosty concoctions are a wee slice of heaven in your mouth, and everyone makes it in. Also, it should be known that these shakes are the classic version of a shake, as in ice cream mixed with milk, as opposed to the extra-thick, soft serve+topping shakes that run rampant here in Utah. Drop the extra dime and get one; they put Iceberg's shakes to shame. That being said, Smashburger is above average as a burger joint goes. They have high quality ingredients and an impressive presentation. I ordered the namesake Smash burger from the menu. The burger was large and hearty and more than satisfied my hunger. It was also tasty, but I find the burgers at some other joints slightly more mouth-watering at a lower price. My brother and I also ordered the Smash Fries (shoestring fries with rosemary) and the haystack onions. We decided that the fries would have been better without the rosemary (or with lighter application) and that the haystack onions belong on top of a nice, juicy steak. As a side, they left us wanting more, (more liquid refreshment to be exact). Other pluses include pleasant atmosphere and extra-roomy booths for those of us of plus-sized and/or big and tall status, whichever the case may be. So you can't really go wrong with Smashburger because they have a quality product.in an appealing atmosphere. Just be sure to get a shake for Pete's sake.

Although the food is okay, the portions are kind off small for the price. And the service is really slow for a burger place.

It's a chain, but you can't deny the quality and the taste at Smash. My only complaint is that the first few times I went there it seemed to be cleaner and the burgers were made with a a little more care. Either way, it is still a great place to grab eats in the Sugarhouse area.

This location is quite difficult to get in and out of because of the high-traffic of the small streets/small parking lots in Sugarhouse. There was a long line, which indicates the food is good. I'd say we ordered and were served in 15-20 minutes, so not too bad if it weren't fast food location. The great thing about this location is the customer service. We ordered a grasshopper shake, thinking it was mint oreo, but it was just mint. We asked if we could get some oreo in it after they gave it to us, and they just made a new one at no charge. What great customer service! The food is good, with lots of options, but not necessarily the best burger around. The fries are more like in-n-out - thin and little, whereas I prefer the larger more potato-y ones...I can see how some people may love them, I just don't. The haagan-daaz shakes are absolutely yummy and half price from 2-5! Highly recommended. The stand-alone tables were all wobbly, so if you take your kids, you'll constantly have to guard your food from sliding around. All-in-all this location was a little crazy for me and the food was just okay (I prefer Five Guys), but the customer service made up for the disgruntledness.

Out of all of the burger chains, I think Smashburger is my favorite out of all of them. I got a Beehive burger and some smashfries and was extremely pleased. It just hit the spot in all of the right ways. The burger was a little bit sweet from the honey bbq sauce and had haystack onion rings on top with some applewood smoked bacon inbetween. Yum-O! The smashfries were tossed in olive oil with garlic and rosemary. The burger and fries were a little too oily for my liking, but hey well worth it. I'll just exercise the excess oil off. I'd go to this place for a fast burger anytime.

We walked over to smashburger for dinner tonight- had never tried it and wanted something new. Why did we wait so long?? Can I just say BLACK BEAN BURGER? Omygosh, that was unbelievably good!! I have been a vegetarian for over 16 years and that was, bar none, the best meatless burger I have ever had! You can order any of their burgers or chicken sandwiches with the bean burger substituted. I picked the Mushroom Swiss burger but did not want mayo. I paid 99 cents to add guacamole. It was amazing! My boyfriend ordered a burger, although I don't remember which one, and after one bite of mine, changed his mind about bean burgers. He finished his burger, announced he was still hungry and went up to order his own black bean burger. It was THAT good, people! We tried an order of their veggie frites, flash fried carrots and green beans. I would say pass on these. They are not super tasty but are extremely oily. I wish we had tried the smash fries. Next time!

Favorite burgers anywhere. Love their salads and chicken sandwiches too! Shakes are intermittently amazing and less than..... but the rosemary smash fries.. are my favorite anywhere!

I really believe the staff hates their job here. We walked in and weren't greeted, and the gal took our order with less enthusiasm than Eeyore might show if he worked at Smashburger. The ONLY reason, and I do mean the only reason we came here instead of somewhere else was because we were in the neighborhood, kids were starving and I read that they have milkshakes and the kids started dying for a milkshake. I tried to steer them to the original Pancake House, or heck, even Pei Wei next door, but they HAD to have a milkshake and they had to have it right then. Milkshakes at Smashburger are a rip off to the max. The kids meals are already kind of pricey and they offer soda or a milk for a drink option. I asked if I could upgrade (ie, pay more) for milkshakes for the kids. I was informed that there is no way to do that and I could only pay full price for the kids meal and then pay for milkshakes on top of it, and either get the extra kids drinks or just not have them. $34 for me and 3 kids and it felt like a typical fast food joint. Ouch. Ouch, ouch, ouch. Every open booth was dirty so we sat at a table. It was less dirty than the others. My son's milkshake was served to him overflowing and dripping all over he table causing a 5 year old dramatic panic because he thought he would be in trouble for making a mess. Twenty napkins later, it was all good. I had the Baja burger which was ok. I liked it fine but the price tag was still weighing heavily on my mind. There wasn't anything remarkable about the burger that stood out and made me think that this place is awesome and I should come back. Sure, the buns are soft and good but the rest? I have 5 other places I can go to get something similar, and a lot cheaper. My side was fried pickles and we all loved those. Still, I can't see coming back just for fried pickles, ever. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to bus my own table at the end of the meal. The dishes and stuff seemed like the answer would be no, but then there were trash cans near the exit, so we did. I really want to give this place 2.5 stars, but I don't think they were terrible enough to warrant 2, so I am bumping it to 3 because the food was edible and flavorful.

One of my first reviews was for the "new" Smashburger in WVC, like two years ago. I think I ripped on just about everything in the place. Boy have times changed. Smashburger in Sugarhood has become our go-to fast food burger joint. In my first SB review I raved about the SmashFries, a deliciously salty treat with a hint of rosemary-not something you normally see on fries from a fast food joint. But, maybe what's up is that the guys as Smash spent some time refining their product, because now I can't say enough about the place. The staff is friendly, fast, and efficient. Come to think about it, maybe what's changed is the reviewer; I no longer or rarely get the burger, which I am sure is still relatively greasy. After all, the grease is where the flavor is. Now I usually opt for a grilled smash chicken, which I think is grilled in the grease from the burgers. Trust me, there's plenty of grease to go around, but again, it's where the flavor is, and I'm not talking about the Marlboro man here. Granted, the service staff is quite a dish to savor on it's own, so maybe there are some underlying reasons why we keep coming back. I've always wanted to try one of their Haagen Dazs shakes but even with his genetically-prone hypertension, Sister Holland would absorb a good portion of it before I even got a taste-so no point in that. If you're looking for a tasty burger or chicken sandwich, don't have anyone who'll steal your shake, and love good fries stop on in to Smashburger, you won't regret calories; they're simply delicious.

Great burgers, tasty fries and stellar service. The assistant manager mika was fantastic, friendly and helpful. They missed an ingredient in our burgers and they replaced the whole burger, they were awesome. If you are looking for a quality burger then it is worth stopping by. Thanks!

Whatever attempts Smashburger makes to distinguish itself from fast food are futile. I'd rather eat at Burgerking or Carl's Jr. any day. My daughter just asked me "what are you doing?" I said "writing a review", she said "of what?" I said "Smashburger", she said "say their fries are bad!" I said "okay." I wouldn't agree that they are "bad", but they're definitely not good. The Baja chicken sandwich was decent, nothing I would come back for. The club bacon burger was pathetic. The burger patty wasn't much thicker than a piece of cardboard and could equally be compared to in flavor.

I prefer the WVC location. The staff here is too friendly, to the point of slowing down the line. Not a place you can grab a quick lunch. I also wish the add-ons when "creating" your own burger weren't so expensive - 1.99 for 5 pieces of spinach is a bit much. The food is good, but this one suffers in comparison to the other locations I've been to.

WOW. Never again to McDonalds! Our first Smasburger visit and we were all three impressed. Fresh rolls, vegetables, great vocado slices, great variety of beef patty burgers and chicken sandwiches. And their smash fries, with some olive oil n herbs spices were great. Friendly customer service too. Not crowded at about 2:45PM, so not sure he they deal with the crowds at rush hour. Reasonably priced. Serve Honest T teas and another fresh brewed herbal tea. We were on vacation trip....and WILL be back. :-)

Okay so went to the one in sugar house and the customer service was amazing, going into places like this only make me wonder why do people continue going to mcdonalds, Got the bean burger and it was delicious, the food was out very fast and not to mention the shakes are yum yum, and they give you the leftovers of your shake that didn't fit in the cup YAY!

I have to say I was very disappointed in Smashburger. First of all the service was poor - no smiles, rapid fire questions and in general just a rush to get my order and move on (it was not busy, and there is a fun/polite way of taking orders and still be efficient). As for the food, the burgers were too salty, it was a complete mess when unwrapped. The Smashfries were too hard and they added too much rosemary that overwhelmed the flavor of the fries. Sadly I would have preferred to go to a traditional fast food burger joint for better flavor and service. If you're in for a gourmet burger take the extra few minutes to drive to Five Guys, otherwise try a different restaurant in the area.

I have to start out by saying that I tried Smashburger with a lot of trepidation. I had a feeling it was just going to be another ho-hum, burger franchise of someones fond memories gone bad when they took over the world. You know, like In-n-Out and Five Guys. Well, I was wrong, they were pretty dang good. I walked into this location in Sugar House just before the lunch rush took over and they were already full of young, hip, urban workers out for lunch in their rolled up sleeves, pink tie and square framed glasses glory. There was a line and it reached the door. I almost left when four other individuals got out of line and left. No burger is worth a long wait, but I was there, had the kid in my arms and I didn't want to walk the half block back to the car; where I parked because there was no room in uber small parking lot. So I waited, waited and waited some more. FINALLY I was to the front of the line (20 minutes and a wiggly 1 year old later). So I placed my order, to go, for the Beehive Burger and the Smash Fries (rosemary sprinkled). They asked my name and said it should be ready in 10 minutes. 10 minutes after 20 minutes line = 30 minutes for a to go order at lunch. Remember these times folks. If you have a 30 minutes or even 1 hour lunch hour you will be pushing it here. That said, they do have an option to order online at smashburger ...! That should shave off some time. So about 10 minutes later they called my name and handed me my burger and fries in a nicely packaged and you can't check your order before you leave, sealed box. I walked the half block to my car, loaded up the now wiggly and grumpy kid and headed home to dine. When I arrived, I settled in at the table and opened up my buger box. The first thing that I noticed was that my burger was still quite warm. It was about a 10 minute drive, so that is pretty good. The second thing I noticed was that the fries were still hot and crispy and the rosemary aroma was incredible. So first thing I did was taste a fry. WOW! Amazing! Just the right amount of rosemary and salt and perfectly crispy. So, now the moment of truth I opened the burger..... Now I ordered the Beehive burger, which should have bacon on it. I got the mushroom swiss burger which I did not order. However, it is too far to go back and I certainly did not want to wait AGAIN, so being that I will eat anything I dove in anyway. It was AMAZING! The mushrooms were delicious, the cheese was tasty and the patty was perfectly cooked and seasoned! I loved it! The next visit to Smash was pretty much the same. This time I had a larger take-out order. This time it was all correct and this time it was still really good. The third trip was much better, the wait was shorter. The kinks were worked out and we ate on-site and WOW. Amazing food and taste. That drive home with takeout degrades the food a bit. The fourth trip we took because we had coupons for free shakes on the 4th of July. We went for dinner and the place was packed with families and since we had the kiddos we loved that and felt comfortable with allowing ours to just be a kid and have fun. He did. The shakes and malts were delicious and like REAL shakes. Not Utah Concretes. You could actually drink these with a straw and they gave you the extra in the stainless steel cup. NICE! In conclusion I can say that I have gone from 3 stars and A-OK to 4 stars and Yay! I am a fan. Can't wait to Smash my own at the UYE in Draper!

Overpriced! I couldn't believe how much a burger and fries cost here. Its more expensive than just about every sit down restaurant. For this price you would expect a made to order burger, but this was just a Burger King quality burger at a premium price. Also the wait was ridiculous. Definitely will not go back!

Burgers are great and completely customizable. However, I've never received a correct order from several visits. They do make it right, but it is still a PITA. The smash fries are unique and tasty, fried pickles are great when hot. Overall, a nice place to eat if you can afford it.

I have been here twice and i prefer five guys way more. I think the sauce and condiments are a little slim. The smash fries are dry and so are the sweet potatoe fries. The salads are better but nothing spectacular.

I went back to Smashburger again the other night. I didn't like the interior of this place on my first trip, and I felt that even more this time. It feels like you're sitting in the food court at the mall. I'd give the interior and the vibe of Smashburger 1 star. The food continues to be decent. The burgers are pretty tasty, and the toppings are nicely prepped and fresh. The egg buns they use are very soft and good. Three stars for food. I'm giving Smashburger the benefit of the doubt because you can take your food to go. I will not eat inside their store again. It's mind-numbing.

Met a friend here for lunch and ordered the spicy baja chicken sandwich. It had lots of flavor. I will definitely go back an eat there again. For a side we split the sweet potato smash fries with a side of fry sauce and that was just as good. I do recommend people try it out. :)

I went to Smashburger for the first time a few nights ago and wow! I loved it. I used to be a huge Five Guys fan, and while they are still good, I think that I found my new burger place. I had the Beehive burger and sweet potatoe smashfries. I loved the combo of rosemary, olive oil and garlic - not too much or too little. Juuuuust right. The burger was excellent! Customer service was great. I can't wait to go back!

I recently tried the Beehive Burger at Smashburger, and it was very tasty. The barbeque sauce had the right balance of sweet and tangy, and the burger was topped with their haystack onions. I've been to SB twice now, and have yet to be impressed with their sides. The first time I went, I had their haystack onions, which were so oily and thin I couldn't even pick them up and dip them in sauce without making a mess. The fry sauce (or whatever their cutesy name is for fry sauce) had WAY too much horseradish when I went the first time, but seemed to be corrected now. Their smashfries were just ok. The fries seemed to be pulled out of a freezer bag. Nothing special about them. The employees seem to be enthused about their work, and stop by your table frequently to see how everything is going. One thing I don't understand about Smashburger: their whole MO is that they "smash" the burgers on the flat-top, which supposedly seals the flavors in the burger. So why hide your differentiating factor in the back of a kitchen customers can't even see? Make the flat-top visible from the front of the house, so we can watch you work your smashing magic! If I could give 3.5 stars, I would.

This place used to be great! What was once the best place in town to get fries (tossed with olive oil and herbs) is now inconsistent, limp and flavorless. Their burgers have increased by a $1.00 in the last year and nothing to show for higher price. The service the last time (and I do mean THE LAST TIME) was pretentious and condescending. I thought I was in a trendy coffee shop. My family was very put off by it.

In the battle of over-priced burger joints that have been opening in Utah recently, my vote easily goes to Smashburger. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger with smash fries. Unlike the others that reviewed, I received my burger quickly (and it was the one I ordered!) This was during dinner time, though, and the place wasn't mobbed like it appears to be during lunch. The burger? All the ingredients tasted super fresh. The meat was delicious and I loved the garlic flavor of the mushrooms. The fries were just crispy enough, and the rosemary was a nice touch. Yes, it set me back $10 with a drink, and for that I feel dirty. But it was really, really good.

It's time I update this review. My first experience with the Smashburger wasn't super awesome, but I've been back a few times since and it's grown on me. The rosemary garlic fries are *awesome* when they're fresh- I don't even like fries and I love these. The burgers are really good, too. Actually, it's the bun I really dig. It's sturdy and kind of chewy and it hold up well to all the toppings one can chose to adorn the burger with. Did you know you can have an egg put on your burger? I thought the only place you could have that is Big Ed's, up by the U.

I do not typically eat burgers and fries because I prefer more healthful choices. My kids convinced convinced me to try SmashBurger and I must admit: it was very good! Very fresh and quality ingredients: real sliced avocado, green leaf lettuce, fresh tomato, whole grain bun. The burger was also fresh and hand pressed. LOVED the fries! Sea salt and fresh rosemary-heaven! I must admit that I liked it and was impressed by the ingredients. I'll go back for more.

BUMMER!!! I ordered my usual a Classic (with everything) HOLD THE MEAT and Sweet Potato fries. I got home to enjoy my lunch and they * FORGOT THE CHEESE * on my burger which is my favorite part - I am so bummed. This is the first time I have visited the Sugarhouse location and although the service was excellent - I expect to get what I ordered. Signed, Cheeseless in SLC

One of my favorite Burger joints in Salt Lake. Great food at a great value. My favorite in the Beehive Burger (I get the BBQ sauce on the side and add a Fried Egg on Top) and the Smashfries are really good!

This happens to be the second time I have eaten at Smashburger. The reason I went recently is because I had fond memories of this place , albeit fuzzy obscure memories. I ordered the 1/2 pound Local Beehive burger and swapped the cheese for pepperjack. and ordered some smashfries. The burger was decent I. The flavor profile for the burger wasn't as robust as i thought it should have been. The burger has Honey BBQ sauce, Applewood bacon, and onion straws. The meat was literally smashed and such the 1/2 pounder was falling apart when trying to attempt to eat it. I found that i had to diaper my burger to prevent it from soiling my shirt. The bacon wasn't crispy as well which was disappointing. The smashfries were ok but i felt they would work better as an appetizer than a side of fries. the flavor of olive oil and rosemary was a lil too much and it didn't blend well with fry sauce. All and all this place is less than OK and i dont hink I will go there again. especially since there are In-n-Outs and Crown Burgers in the valley.

While not finding the Japanese place we wanted to eat at, we passed by the big red letters "SMASHBURGER" -It called to us, so we did a u-turn where we weren't supposed to and preceded to enter hamburger heaven... I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! At work I get teased because I smash my food and well look at what we have here a place that smashes it's food full of seasoning and hell it's yummy stuff. My daughter and I were never hamburger people but because of this place we now crave hamburgers. It's cool in the inside -very stylish with 3 colors-red,black and white.Your food comes pretty fast and I love, love, love that flash fried seasoned veggies is an option other than fries. The veggies are carrots(Favorite), green beans and asparagus. I was praying that we had one or will have one in Las Vegas...my prayers were answered. I found that one was 10min from my work and another Smashburger will be built at a location close to my house.

A burger joint is probably never at the top of my list of places to eat. Mainly due to the fact that I don't eat beef. I finally decided to try Smashburger after reading all about how different it is from the run of the mill burger places. As it turned out, my only option was the Smash chicken, which was more of a sandwich than a burger. My order was to go. It came in a nice box with fry sauce and ketchup. The service was friendly. While the food gets a thumbs up and it is less expensive than gourmet burger places like Red Robin, the limited menu will probably limit the visits I make here.

Conveniently located in a Sugar House strip mall, just 10 minutes from downtown, Smashburger is worth the drive. Well seasoned beef, combined with fresh toppings and tasty buns -- burger bliss. If you want to kick it up a notch, the Spicy Baja delivers with fresh jalapenos. In addition to the great burgers, they serve Haagen Dazs milkshakes...YUM! The service is quick and courteous.

Delicious juicy burgers. Gotta get the smash fries or the sweet potato fries. The smash fries are overall a little too greasy but still tasty. You just might regret eating them later...
